I Long for the Garden of Eden

Not long ago, I was pouring out my heart to the Lord. I was frustrated by the brokenness of this world—the pain, the division, the suffering, the disappointments. It all felt so heavy.

As I sat quietly with Him, I sensed Him gently whisper to my heart,

"Sweetheart, we're not in the Garden anymore."

His words weren't a rebuke. They were filled with tenderness and compassion. In that moment, I realized I had been expecting life in a fallen world to feel like Eden.

The Garden of Eden was God's original design. It was a place of perfect love, perfect peace, and perfect relationship. Adam and Eve walked with God without fear or shame. There was no striving, no betrayal, no sickness, no death—only joyful fellowship with the One who created them.

Deep down, I think every one of us longs for that garden.

We ache for a world where relationships are whole, where our hearts feel safe, where love isn't interrupted by loss, and where peace is more than a fleeting moment. That longing isn't weakness. It's evidence that we were created for something more than this broken world.

The wonderful news is that Jesus didn't just come to forgive our sins. He came to restore our relationship with the Father. While we still live in a fallen world, we no longer have to live separated from God's presence. We can walk with Him today, hear His voice, experience His joy, and find His peace in the middle of life's disappointments.

And one day, our longing will finally be fulfilled.

The Bible ends with a beautiful picture of God dwelling with His people once again. What was lost in the Garden will be fully restored through Christ. Until that day, every moment spent abiding in Him is a foretaste of the home our hearts have always desired.

So when this world disappoints you—and it will—remember His gentle reminder:

"Sweetheart, we're not in the Garden anymore."

But because of Jesus, the Garden is no longer just behind us.

It is also before us.

And every step we take with Him brings us closer to home.
